Charles Mason, Head Wrestling Coach, Mount St. Joseph University

CINCINNATI, Ohio-- Mount St. Joseph University Director of Athletics Steve Radcliffe is proud to announce that Charles Mason has been tabbed as the new, full-time head wrestling coach at The Mount.

During the past year and a half, The Mount's wrestling program has been on a steady climb since the appointment of former Head Coach Elliott Spence. The Lions coaching staff has been on a mission to rebuild the once dominant program. Coach Mason played an extremely important role in helping to bring an outstanding recruiting class to The Mount for the 2018-19 season.

Coach Mason attended Princeton High School in Cincinnati, where he twice qualified for the OHSAA state tournament. After graduating from Princeton, Charles earned a scholarship to NCAA Division II Notre Dame College where he would become a team captain and an All-American.

"I am very excited for The Mount's wrestling program," said former Coach Spence. "We worked very hard last year to bring in a recruiting class of 21 high-level athletes, and Charles was a big part of that effort. Charles will do a fantastic job as the new full-time head coach of the MSJ Wrestling program." Coach Spence will remain with the program as an assistant coach under Coach Mason.

Director of Athletics Steve Radcliffe said, "I am very pleased to have Charles Mason on board as our full-time head wrestling coach. Coach Mason has proven an effective recruiter and together with the rest of the coaching staff will start the 2018 wrestling season with a squad of almost 30 wrestlers of which 21 are new to The Mount."

"I am very excited for the opportunity to lead this program going forward" Coach Mason said. "I want to build a National Championship caliber team and continue to grow wrestling in Southwest Ohio. A huge thank you to Steve Radcliffe, Elliott Spence and everyone in the Mount's Athletic Department who have given me this opportunity."

The new-look Mount St. Joseph wrestling team will open the season by traveling to the University of the Cumberlands for the Patriot Open on November 3, 2018.
